This Institute, created within the Faculty of Bioethics, has the mission of analysing and improving the understanding of bioethical issues in relation to human rights. The activities of the Institute (teaching, scientific research, and dissemination of its line of thought) are founded on a humanist model of bioethics of Christian inspiration.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) signed an agreement with our Athenaeum and the European University of Rome to create a UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights. The Chair, which makes part of the Institute of Bioethics and Human Rights, promotes the exchange of ideas and the sharing of experiences through a dialogue with higher-education institutions in various countries, especially developing ones.
