EXPLORING ADVANCES AND EMERGING SCENARIOS OF HUMAN TECHNOLOGY

Launch of the Training Course in Neurobioethics

– Neurobioethics and Neurotechnologies –

V Edition

Rome, 21 September 2021. The 5th edition of the Training Course in Neurobioethics – Neurobioethics and Neurotechnologies, organized by the Neurobioethics Interdisciplinary Research Group (GdN) of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights (Faculty of Bioethics – APRA), will start on 24 September at 5 pm.

The Course, this year planned in both Italian and English, will dedicate reflection, research, publication and training to the critical analysis of the emerging scenarios relating to the progressive human-technology hybridization: from the developments of electroencephalography to those of magnetic resonance, from the brain-computer-robot interfaces to the “reading of mind” and the so-called “cybernetic telepathy”. These developments of robotics and artificial intelligence, with their multiple applications to human enhancement, challenge the man and woman of today to decide the direction given to neuro-technological progress.

To inaugurate the beginning of the Course, the Neurobioethics Group, directed by Prof. Fr. Alberto Carrara, L.C., is organising an online event open to all that consists of two lectures in English with simultaneous translation into Italian.

The first conference will be held by Prof. Dr. Robert J. Buchanan, KM, MD, Director of Neurosurgery (Seton Brain and Spine Institute), Director of Neurosurgery (Seton Family of Hospitals), Director of Spinal Surgery and Deep Brain Stimulation (Seton Brain and Spine Institute), Associate Professor, University of Texas.

After a short break, Jesús Lafuente, MD, FRCSEd, FRCS Glas, PhD, EANS Past President Neurosurgeon (Hospital Universitario del Mar, Barcelona, Spain), Director of the Spinal Unit at Hospital del Mar, Associate Professor at UAB, Autonomous University of Barcelona, President-Elect of EANS 2017 (European Association of Neurosurgical Societies) will speak in the second lecture.
