January 23rd – Neurobioethics Open Class: “Stem Cells and Longevity. Regenerative Medicine Between Science, Ethics, and the Future”

On January 23rd, an online Open Class will be held dedicated to the new frontiers of stem cells. The event is part of the Advanced Course in Neurobioethics program within the Faculty of Philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

The session will feature a discussion between Prof. Fr. Alberto Carrara, LC (Dean of the Faculty) and Prof. Fernando Colao (expert in regenerative medicine) to analyze the link between clinical innovation and ethics.

Starting from emblematic clinical cases—such as a 68-year-old patient who regained mobility thanks to mesenchymal stem cells—the lecture will explore the concept of “healthspan”:

“Stem cells can contribute not only to healing injuries but potentially to extending one’s healthspan—the duration of life spent in good health—by slowing down degenerative processes through the enhancement of tissue regeneration capacity.”
