The Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy is a three-year undergraduate academic program designed to promote research and the systematic study of philosophical disciplines. The program provides a solid foundation in philosophy, with a particular focus on acquiring a rigorous method of reflection and critical analysis.
Educational Objectives
The course aims to develop a thorough knowledge of philosophy in its main branches: metaphysics, logic, anthropology, ethics, and the history of thought. Students will be guided in assimilating the laws of thought and the fundamental principles of reality, in developing a balanced critical sense, and in mastering a philosophical heritage of perennial validity. Furthermore, the program enables students to acquire the necessary tools to understand the main currents of contemporary thought and to address the dialogue between faith and reason.
Program Structure
The Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy is structured over three years, totaling 180 ECTS credits, including compulsory and optional courses, seminars, and a final written paper. The two-year studies in Philosophy, recognized by the Faculty of Theology, allow access to the Baccalaureate in Theology upon completion of the required supplementary studies.
Admission Requirements
To access the first cycle of studies, it is necessary to hold a qualification that allows access to university in one’s own country. Non-native Italian speakers must demonstrate adequate knowledge of the language (minimum level B1 CEFR), verified through a placement test. Support courses are offered during the first semester to achieve the required proficiency.
Knowledge of Latin is also required, verifiable through a preliminary exam. Those who do not pass this test must attend supplementary courses in philosophical Latin, with the obligation to pass the subsequent exam.
Exams and Final Paper
At the end of the three-year program, students must take a comprehensive oral exam covering the main disciplines of the program. Additionally, a written paper, under the guidance of a professor, with a minimum length of 30 pages, is required and must be submitted within the established deadlines.
