Thanks to the approval of the Holy See, 30% of the credits for the Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology program are now available online, expanding the educational offerings and representing a significant step towards the integration of new technologies in theological education.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum offers the possibility of attending the first year of the Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology entirely online and in Spanish, while the second year will take place in person at the APRA headquarters in Rome, in Italian.
Educational Objectives
The Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology program aims to achieve a comprehensive, in-depth, and systematic knowledge of Dogmatic Theology. Students will therefore be guided to develop a personal theological synthesis in their specialization, acquiring methodological tools for scientific research and preparation for teaching. Particular attention is paid to the in-depth study of the thought of the great masters of tradition, from St. Thomas Aquinas to Benedict XVI, with an approach oriented towards the New Evangelization.
Structure and Study Methods
The Licentiate has a duration of two academic years and includes a total of 120 ECTS, divided between compulsory courses, seminars, Italian language, and the final dissertation.
- First Year (Online, in Spanish): lessons concentrated on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (3:00 PM – 7:45 PM Rome time), with a maximum of 24 registered students. Evaluation is based on written assignments and interactive activities, without traditional exams.
- Second Year (In-Person, in Italian, Rome): morning lessons, with seminars and specialization courses. Integration with Italian language courses to facilitate the adaptation of international students.
Admission Requirements
To enroll in the course, it is necessary to have obtained a Bachelor of Theology or to have completed a six-year philosophical-theological program at a Major Seminary or another approved Institute. The Faculty may require an admission test or the integration of some basic courses to ensure adequate preparation.
