New publication “Multicultural and Religious Perspectives on Protecting the Environment, the Biosphere, and Biodiversity”

The new volume “Multicultural and Religious Perspectives on Protecting the Environment, the Biosphere, and Biodiversity”, published by Routledge, has recently been released. The work was edited by two esteemed faculty members of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum (APRA): Professor Joseph Tham, LC, Professor of Bioethics, and Professor Sameer Advani, LC, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Theology, along with John Lunstroth, Fellow of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights.

The book gathers the proceedings of the 8th International Workshop of the “Bioethics, Multiculturalism, and Religion” Project and stands as an important resource in the debate on the ecological crisis. It brings together bioethics experts from the seven major world religions—Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism—alongside secular thinkers. Its aim is to explore environmental protection through the lens of the UNESCO Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. The work highlights the strength and contribution of diverse cultural and religious perspectives in addressing humanity’s most urgent challenge: the global ecological crisis.

The contributions offer rich and distinctive religious and cultural visions, analyzing the anthropological, ethical, and social dimensions of the environmental crisis. Through a dialogue that weaves together traditions and philosophies, the volume proposes original reflections on global bioethics and human rights, aiming to inspire new ways of thinking and promote meaningful collaboration among cultures and religions for the future of the planet.

This volume represents a valuable and essential read for researchers, scholars, and students of bioethics, environmental ethics, religious studies, and related disciplines who wish to explore the crucial intersection between ethics, culture, religion, and ecological sustainability.
