In Altum: students participating in the program

This summer, Br. Darius Lawrence LC and Fr. Nils Schäfer LC, both students of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University, had the opportunity to participate in the international program In Altum in Washington D.C. Each year, this conference invites Catholic students and young professionals from around the world to exchange ideas on current topics for a week together with experts and network with influential institutions. In Altum’s mission is to bring together university students and young professionals to discuss how the values of the Catholic intellectual tradition and its social teaching can be applied in the construction of civil society and contribute to the debate public with a multidisciplinary approach.
Thus he wants to build an international community of leaders who together pursue truth and wisdom, presenting the teachings of the Catholic Church in complex social relations and through the spheres of society, public and private.
In addition to the various conferences on freedom of expression, human rights, religion and politics, there was also plenty of time to get to know each other and explore Washington D.C.. “I especially take away the friendships with the other participants for my further journey”, reports Br. Nils. “It was impressive to discover how each individual assumes a great social responsibility in their own country and embraces faith in their professional career”. In line with the motto of the Duc In Altum programme, particular emphasis was placed on the intellectual depth of the meeting to prepare for the mission of reconciling the Western world with the values of the Gospel.
Fr. Darius and Fr. Nils were supported by a generous scholarship from the University.
