The course aims to explore the core, history, and current relevance of the spirituality, cult, and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Biblical sources, papal teaching, and the theology of the saints are studied in an integrated manner and contextualized within the history of spirituality. In addition, the possibilities of devotion to the Sacred Heart in contemporary pastoral practice are evaluated. Each student is to choose a spiritual author or a specific theme to explore. Figures to consider, at the student's discretion, include: Saint Gertrude the Great, Saint Francis de Sales, Saint John Eudes, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, Jean Croiset, Bernard de Hoyos, Marie-Joseph Coudrin, Henri Ramière, Saint Marie Josepha of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Saint Charles de Foucauld, Leo Dehon, Saint Marie Faustina Kowalska, Marie Consolata Betrone, Matthew Crawley-Boevey, Saint Manuel González and Luis-María Martínez, among others. In particular, the course offers some ideas to illuminate the presence and role of the spirituality of the Sacred Heart in the spirituality of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi. The methodology includes: - Master classes. - Reading and personal study. - Class presentation and discussion.
