The Course intends to contribute to a growth of awareness in relation to the responsibility that all men have to “accompany” their “travel companions” towards a human and Christian maturity and towards the good life of the Gospel. Starting from a terminological analysis (accompaniment, direction, paternity, advice), and after a biblical and historical positioning of the theme, the theological nature of spiritual direction will be explored, the figure and action of the companion will be described and some methodological ideas will be offered for conducting accompaniment interviews. By its nature, therefore, the Course is placed on the border between different theological and human disciplines, recovering in particular the contributions of sociology, to which it turns to understand the religious phenomenon today and its particular characteristics, and those of psychology, in relation to the themes of affective life, the role of motivations, interpersonal relationships, overcoming or preventing “crises”.
