Introduction
The strongest question of our time concerns the meaning of sexual identity. The issue of gender has challenged heteronormativity and highlighted the complexity of elements involved in the formation of gender identity. What is the relationship between person, sex, and gender? Is one born a woman (or a man) or does one become one? Is it still possible to talk about masculinity and femininity? How can we interpret the masculinity crisis we are experiencing? Is it still possible to talk about complementarity? How can we develop female and male identity within a logic of co-identity and alliance? Is it possible to make this alliance explicit and translate it into culture? What are the anthropological issues that allow us to answer these questions? The Institute proposes an interdisciplinary path to illuminate these questions and find ways of response and communication.
