Introduction

The course aims to impart the essential requirements for the healthy development of the person and the priest from a human perspective in relation to the dynamics of faith. The starting point of the course is the need for interdisciplinary vocational discernment that can view the world in general and young people in particular, taking into account all the stimuli that today come from a disoriented world that sometimes seems to be moving in a disorganized and confused manner. COVID-19 has highlighted individual fragility; in December 2020, the use of psychotropic drugs increased by 35-40%, and the rise in psychopathology advanced by 45%. Everything has been transferred to the online world; how can one remain solid in their relationship with themselves, with God, and with others? How should today’s young priest know how to manage all this? The course will quickly review the first theorists of human development, such as Freud, Erikson, Bowlby, and Kohlberg, and contemporary theorists such as Siegel, Van Der Kolk, and Hill. The course will discuss the importance of attachment as a predictive factor for stable and lasting relationships over time, and it will compare the stages of faith life in relation to human maturity and possible age-related crises. All types of relationships will be addressed, including man-woman relationships, friendship, community life, falling in love, and the choice to remain faithful to one’s vocation. Topics related to discernment and psychological itineraries to be developed, stress, trauma, pedophilia, and the accompaniment of abuse victims, homosexuality, and pornography addiction will be addressed. This is to create synergy and unity between body, heart, mind, and Spirit.
