Introduction

This philosophy course aims to deepen the relationship between faith and reason, following the path outlined in the encyclical Fides et Ratio by Saint John Paul II. The objective is to demonstrate how faith and reason are not in conflict, but rather two complementary dimensions in the search for truth.
Through philosophical and theological analysis, the course will explore:
• The concept of truth as the horizon of human knowledge, not only empirical and scientific, but also contemplative.
• The dual direction of the search for truth: horizontal (scientific and historical knowledge) and vertical (interiority and transcendence).
• The role of faith in the process of knowledge and its interaction with reason.
Guiding principles:
1. Faith is not a resignation of reason, but an adherence of reason.
2. Faith is reason extended to the total reality.
Through comparison with classical and modern philosophy, the course will examine the different orders of knowledge (empirical, scientific, historical, interior, and supernatural) and how faith intervenes in each of them. The alleged conflict between faith and reason in modernity and its cultural and philosophical roots will also be discussed.
