The specific philosophical issue of language is studied through two approaches. The first is historical and is organized around two focal points: firstly, the reflections of Plato and Aristotle on language; secondly, the turning point inaugurated by Ferdinand de Saussure in the contemporary age and the reactions it provoked. The second approach is theoretical and offers a detailed analysis of the linguistic sign from a Thomistic perspective.
