Introduction

The program of the Italian Language and Culture Course for students who speak other languages, in the first semester, includes a systematic assessment of competencies related to morphosyntactic content and main communicative functions at levels A1 and A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Specifically, this includes: articles, gender and number of nouns and adjectives, ordinal and cardinal adjectives, subject pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, present indicative tense, sentence structure (affirmative, negative, interrogative), prepositions, present tense of reflexive verbs, present progressive form, frequency adverbs, possessive adjectives, the verb “piacere,” impersonal verb forms, locative “ci,” comparative and superlative forms, past tense (passato prossimo), future tense, direct pronouns, partitive “ne,” agreement of the past participle with direct pronouns; formal/informal approach, greeting and responding to greetings, introducing oneself and others, spelling, inquiring, identifying, indicating nationality, asking and stating names, expressing sensations and moods, expressing agreement and disagreement, asking and telling the time, expressing opposition, asking and stating age, describing physical characteristics and subjective impressions of someone’s character, expressing existence and non-existence, asking and stating daily and weekly schedules, asking for and giving information about others, inviting and responding to invitations, thanking and responding to thanks, asking for and granting or denying permission.
