Academic Year 2023-2024
Semester
II Semestre
Class beginning dates
17/02/2024
Introduction
The course will introduce narrative reading of the Torah, from the prologue of Genesis to the foundational story of Israel; from the birth to the death of Moses. Students will be introduced to the inquiry into the editing of the Pentateuch and its relationship to history, against the backdrop of ancient Near Eastern culture. Through the historical books, students will be able to discover the history of the reception of the Torah beyond Moses, in the alternating events of the early history of Israel. The narrative art of the Bible will be particularly highlighted. The most substantial section of the course will focus on the ‘theological-foundational’ moment of Israel’s confession of faith, through the study of the various books of the Torah, highlighting their structure, composition, and the intention of the final editing of each.
