Introduction
The course, after examining the theological foundations of sacramental liturgy from the perspective of a divine communication through “sacramental” signs orientated towards a process of divinization of the Christian through participation in the Paschal Mystery of Christ, passes to the examination of the history of the Church’s theological thought on the sacraments and the liturgy considering the fundamental concepts that are common to the entire sacramental economy, such as the definition of the sacrament, its institution and effectiveness, and its general fruits. The liturgy will also be studied from the point of view of its historical, geographical, and juridical development and the value of the essential elements such as the assembly, the Word of God and prayer and the visible structural elements (vestments, icons, churches) auditory (music) and temporal (liturgical year).
