Introduction

The course presents St Thomas Aquinas’ doctrine on the Holy Spirit as it emerges above all from his discussion of the gifts in Part II of the Summa, briefly comparing it with Pietro Lombardo’s rich early work Scriptum super Sententiis, which formed the basis of late medieval theology. The divine Person of the Spirit will be studied with the help of Aquinas’ Commentaries on the Scriptures, which contain teachings of great spiritual value.
