Values and Principles

The Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum distinguishes itself through its real contribution to the evangelization of culture by means of interdisciplinary research areas, innovative formation, and educational programs in the fields of theology, philosophy, bioethics, and religious sciences.

The APRA Third Mission aims to demonstrate that our dedication to formation is not limited to classroom study but extends to the daily practice of solidarity, actively engaging with those who find themselves in difficulty. The path of solidarity is an intellectual act and a concrete service that seeks to give hope to the human community and those most in need.

ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

“We live in a historical moment that does not favour attention to the poorest (…). The parable of the Good Samaritan (cf. Lk 10:25-37) is not a tale of the past, it questions the present of each of us. To delegate to others is easy, to offer money so that others may do charity is a generous gesture, to involve oneself personally is the vocation of every Christian.” (quoting Pope Francis at the 7th World Day of the Poor)

“I want Christian communities to commit themselves to creating many moments of encounter and friendship, of solidarity and concrete help. If there are poor people living in our neighbourhood who seek protection and help, let us approach them: it will be a propitious moment to meet the God we seek. According to the teaching of the Scriptures, let us welcome them as privileged guests at our table; they can be teachers who help us to live our faith more consistently. By their trust and willingness to accept help, they show us in a sober, and often joyful way, how decisive it is to live from the essentials and abandon ourselves to the Father’s providence”. (quoting by Pope Francis at the 8th World Day of the Poor)

SOLIDAL SPORT

LOYALTYSport is loyalty and respect for the rules.

COMMITMENTThe same parable of the talents (Mt 25:14-30) comes to our aid in this reflection: the servant who, when the master returns, gives back the talent received In sport, it is not enough to have talent to win: it is necessary to guard it, to train it, to live it as an opportunity to pursue and manifest the best in ourselves.

SACRIFICE“sacrifice” is the term that sport shares with religion: “sacrum-facere” is to give sacredness to effort. Nobody likes to toil … If, however, you can find meaning in fatigue, then its yoke becomes lighter. The athlete is a bit like the saint: he knows fatigue but it does not weigh on him because, in fatigue, he is able to glimpse beyond it, something else.

GROUP SPIRITNo one is saved alone. Let us think for example of Moses who, on the mountain, tells God to save the people too, not just him (cf. Ex 32). One might say, using a sports metaphor, that we could only be saved as a team.

RESCUE – It is not enough to dream of success, we must wake up and work hard. That is why sport is full of people who, by the sweat of their brow, beat those who were born with talent in their pockets.

Taken from Pope Francis’ interview with La Gazzetta: “Here are the values of the sport I love” – La Gazzetta dello Sport
