Introduction
After his conversion, St Augustine sought to approach the faith of the Catholic Church and understand its mysteries, first from a more philosophical and rational perspective while he was a monk in Tagaste and can be seen in De uera religione and then as a priest in Hippo from a biblical perspective without ever forgetting reason, but always putting faith first and then reason. In these early Augustinian tracts on faith, one can see how he deepens his knowledge of faith, and how he detaches himself from philosophical categories to approach Holy Scripture and the tradition of the Church. These early books on faith have great value for today’s man who seeks God first through reason. In the course, the professor will give the introduction and the student will be invited to read a selection of texts by St Augustine and make an exposition on a topic of the student’s choice. At the end of the course they will deliver a paper on the topic studied.
