Introduction

The Advanced Course for Licentiate Students provides suitable tools for a deeper understanding of the Italian linguistic and cultural heritage. Its main objective is to enable students to comprehend complex texts on both abstract and concrete topics and to interact naturally with native speakers without effort on either side. To this end, the program includes an in-depth study of the morphosyntactic contents and their corresponding communicative functions at levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In particular: the Subjunctive Mood, Conditional Clauses, Sequence of Tenses and Moods, Passive Voice, Passive “Si”, Non-finite Verb Forms (Gerund, Infinitive, Participle), and Indirect Speech. During lessons, students will engage in reading and analyzing texts taken from literary works, as well as from newspaper and magazine articles. They will also listen to musical pieces and watch films or documentaries, followed by comments, reflections, and discussions. Special attention is given to the study of idiomatic and proverbial expressions present in the Italian language. Bibliography: Professor’s handouts.
