Introduction

The purpose of fundamental theology is to investigate the principles of our faith, which underpin all theological sciences. While various theological sciences delve into the meaning and implications of Revelation, fundamental theology focuses on Revelation itself: what it is, how it was given, and how man receives it. The structure of this course is designed to prepare students to facilitate the encounter of post-modern man with the God of Revelation: from studying the historical event of Revelation to actualizing the salvific event in the life of the post-Christian man. The apologetic aspect of fundamental theology will be presented in a way that from the trends and forms of thought that question the Gospel’s message, legitimate existential questions of man can be derived; thereby knowing which elements need to be reinforced in the proclamation of the Gospel to contemporary man. In the words of Massimo Borghesi: “It is not so much about preserving the faith in the face of a hostile world, although this is obviously necessary, but about ensuring that the event of faith is repeated today, precisely in this hostile world.” (Postmodernity and Christianity 1997)
