Hans Urs von Balthasar is considered among the leading Catholic theologians of the 20th century, author of a vast scholarly output. His most important work is entitled Gloria. A Theological Aesthetics, written in the years 1961-1969, it consists of seven volumes. This course will provide an insight into the thinking of the Swiss theologian. His book Exploration in Theology. I: The Word Made Flesh (San Francisco: Ignatius Press 1989) will serve as a point of reference. It dates from the 1960s and reveals fundamental aspects from von Balthasar’s perspective, such as The Word, Scripture and Tradition, history, Revelation and the Beautyful, the place of Theology and holiness, spirituality, action and contemplation. It opens up a new horizon for understanding Revelation, Faith and Theology.
