The course aims to provide bioethics students with an insight into the medical profession from an American point of view, with the aim of familiarizing themselves with the language, unique culture and mentality of healthcare professionals. We will begin with a look at the medical curriculum and training methods, the different human sciences, and medical terminology accumulated in this intensive training. The scientific methods and assumptions of diagnosis and prognosis, epistemology, research and evidence-based medicine will also be exposed. Finally, the topics of medicine as an art, health economics, patient care and interaction will be addressed, providing an inside view of how medical ethics is perceived by the profession.
