Introduction

The course aims to explore the psychological, relational, and social impact of digital media on young people, with particular attention to changes in identity, communication, and emotional dynamics in the digital age. Through a theoretical and applied approach, students will analyze how media—especially social media—influence identity development, self-image construction, interpersonal relationships, and social participation among youth.
The course examines the psychological aspects of mediated communication, online identity formation, and relational dynamics in digital environments.
It also addresses mechanisms of social influence, the role of algorithms, and the risks associated with dysfunctional media use (such as addiction, cyberbullying, and mental health issues).
A dedicated section focuses on media education and strategies for prevention and digital well-being promotion, with particular attention to the role of schools, families, and professionals.
