After studying what corresponds to being as being (and thus what is common to all beings), in the second part we will study what diversify beings: first, the general principles of being division. Being is said in many ways (analogy), and this is because being is not simple, but composed of two principles: act and potency. Such composition requires a cause, and so we will study the efficient and final cause of being. Next we will study the special principles of the division of being: the threefold composition of being, in the order of “esse” (“esse”-essence); in that of essence (form-matter); and in that of operation (accidents-substance). As an additional development, we will study substance as the compound of “esse”-essence; person as the most perfect substance; and relation as a peculiar accident.
