Introduction

The course intends to introduce the student to the world of international and public law in its relationship with bioethics. Furthermore, the course aims to illustrate in an organic way the role of the rules of international law, its relationship with the national Constitution and the laws of domestic law. The course proposes the deepening of the concepts of hard-law and soft-law, the subjects and sources of international law with a particular study of the State and international organizations, especially those dealing with human rights issues, in general, and bioethics in particular. Of singular importance is the study of the law of treaties. Furthermore, the course develops the fundamental contents of international treaties and declarations concerning human rights and bioethics. A knowledge and familiarity of each of the students with the international standards applicable in their home country will be required through the student’s personal study.
