During the course, the main historical-literary issues related to the Johannine writings (Jn, 1-3 Jn, Rev) and the Catholic epistles (Jas, 1-2 Pt, Jude) will be addressed: genesis, dating, structure, literary relationships. Particular attention will be given to the distinctive features of the Gospel according to John compared to the Synoptics. The Book of Revelation deserves separate discussion: its meaning, composition, language, and the interplay of different literary forms (prophetic and apocalyptic). For each book (the discussion will proceed in canonical order: Jn, Jas, 1-2 Pt, 1-3 Jn, Jude, Rev), a description of some selected passages will be provided.
