The purpose is to present the body of doctrine on the theological virtues as it emerges especially from the rich youthful work of the Scriptum super Sententiis by Peter Lombard, the foundation of late medieval theology, briefly comparing it with the doctrine of the second part of the Summa Theologiae and the mature Compendium Theologiae. The aim is to show the structure of the supernatural organism which culminates in the very theological virtues as the crowning of the life of grace. The essence of the virtues will be examined, as well as, briefly, the opposing vices, and then the gifts of the Holy Spirit connected to them, considered from the perspective of grace as the center of the supernatural life, along with the reasons for their inactivity in the imperfect soul.
