Can the Shroud of Turin be considered a “source” of theology and of spiritual theology? Thus is the “claim” – which, in reality, has strong foundations – of the late Fr. Héctor Guerra, LC, creator of this course.
Of the 24 units, 12 are devoted to topics such as the relationship between the Shroud and the Gospels, the Shroud and the Church Fathers, and the Shroud and the Magisterium, particularly of St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, with talks by various lecturers.
The other 12 units, conducted by Fr. Joseph Spence, re-present and develop the cultural and spiritual legacy of Fr. Héctor Guerra, LC, as well as Msgr. Giulio Ricci and Mother Maria Elisabetta Patrizi, founders (the latter two, in 1976) of the “Roman Center of Sindonology.” The 12 units alternate between major theological themes, such as the Holy Shroud and the Incarnation, the Holy Shroud and the Eucharist, the Holy Shroud and the Paschal Mystery, the Holy Shroud and the Holy Trinity and the Holy Shroud and the New Evangelization; and, on the other hand, in a scientific and spiritual-theological analysis of the Way of the Cross in the light of the Holy Shroud, at the school of Msgr. Giulio Ricci and Mother Maria Elisabetta Patrizi.
