The Advanced Course in Bioethics offers the opportunity to explore core topics in the discipline and to address contemporary challenges in the biomedical, biolaw, and environmental fields in light of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. With a rigorous and interdisciplinary approach, the course integrates ethical reflection with scientific, legal, and pastoral competencies. The Athenaeum promotes a culture of life grounded in the dialogue between faith and reason, offering a meaningful response to today’s urgent issues.
Learning objectives
The course aims to provide a solid bioethical formation, developing participants’ capacity to critically assess moral issues related to life and health. The curriculum helps students understand the foundations of bioethics, guide ethical discernment, and promote an integral vision of the human person in professional, educational, and pastoral contexts.
Program structure
The one-year course includes approximately 70 hours of instruction, totaling 8 ECTS credits. It is available on-site at the Athenaeum or online via live streaming. The program includes the following modules:
- General Bioethics
- Biolaw, Integral Ecology and Sustainable Development
- Bioethics, Sexuality, and Human Reproduction
- Bioethics and the Beginning of Life
- Bioethics, Public Health, and Society
- Bioethics at the End of Life
- Bioethics, Medical Interventions, and Healthcare Management
- Bioethics and Emerging Technologies
To complete the course, students must attend all lectures and pass the final exam.
Admission requirements
The course is open to medical professionals, healthcare workers, legal professionals, teachers, catechists, priests, religious men and women, and anyone engaged in promoting and defending life. No specific academic degree is required, but motivation and a basic cultural background are necessary.
