Fabiano Nigris appointed Chairman of the new Clinical Practice Ethics Committee

 

The new Ethics Committee for Clinical Practice at the ā€˜Burlo Garofolo’ Paediatric Hospital of Trieste has unanimously appointed as Chairman Fabiano Nigris, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Bioethics.

He began his work as a bioethicist at the same hospital in July 2021 as the reference member for communication and training to become its Vice-President in November 2022.

Together with the ā€˜Bambino Gesù’ Hospital in Rome, the ā€˜Meyer’ Hospital in Florence and the ā€˜Gaslini’ Hospital in Genoa, the Children’s Hospital of Trieste is a recognised national excellence for paediatric research and assistance; it was founded on 19 November 1856 as one of the first paediatric hospitals in Italy, as a philanthropic institution sponsored by the rich and multiethnic middle class of the city at the time, with the aim of ā€˜ensuring adequate asylum free of charge to the children of poor parents’.

Since 1968 it has been the Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico (IRCCS) and is now characterised as a highly specialised hospital of national importance in the paediatric sector and in that of maternity and women’s health protection.

Fabiano Nigris is a paediatrician, neonatologist and bioethicist who completed his studies in Bioethics at the University of Padua and subsequent Licentiate in Bioethics at the Faculty of Bioethics of the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum in Rome; he is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Bioethics. She deals with the rights of the embryo, PMA and parental responsibility, the rights of the sick child and end-of-life in paediatric age.
