Six Pontifical Academic Institutions for the Joint Diploma in Women and the Church,
an Urgent and Current Formation.

June 17, 2021 - June 19 marks the beginning of the Joint Diploma in Women and the Church; a shared initiative between the Institute of Higher Studies on Women of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, the Pontifical Urbaniana University, the Pontifical Salesian University, the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences “Auxilium”, and the Claretianum Institute of Theology of Consecrated Life. It also counts with the sponsorship of the Conference of Rectors of Roman Pontifical Universities and Institutions (CRUIPRO) and the Academia de Lideres Catolicos. As stated by Anita Cadavid, Director of the Institute of Higher Studies on Women: "This training course, conceived and promoted by various solid Pontifical Academic realities, seeks not to reduce the discussion to a merely functionalist question, but rather wants to deepen the theme starting from the common dignity of the baptized and the principle that holds that vocations are at the service of one another. This theme confronts us with the question: what processes should be initiated so that there may be an effective alliance between men and women in the being and living of the Church? We will address this question in continuity with the Magisterium of the Church." And as Marta Rodriguez - Coordinator of the Academic and Research Area of the Institute - adds, "The Diploma is formation and a laboratory of synodality. We want to activate processes that promote a more effective collaboration between men and women in the Church." This Diploma is designed as a laboratory of ideas to promote the contribution of women in the Church and the effective cooperation between men and women in different ecclesial environments, and between different vocations and charisms, taking into account the theological, anthropological, historical, canonical and pastoral principles that underlie them and taking into account the necessary diversity of cultures and geographical areas. It is designed for priests, religious men and women, and lay people (men and women) involved in the ecclesiastical sphere at the curial, diocesan, academic level, or in formative roles in the various forms of consecrated or associative life, who want to activate processes in these areas to promote greater collaboration between men and women. The Diploma is divided into several modules: - Socio-historical: it offers the fundamental coordinates of the historical evolution in which the different cultural issues are placed; - Anthropological (philosophical and theological): deepens the meaning of sexual difference in the human person and the complexity of elements that come into play in the formation of sexual identity; - Ecclesiological: starting with the ecclesiology of communion developed at the Second Vatican Council, it takes up the salient points of the conciliar and post-conciliar Magisterium with regard to the laity and women, in order to open up avenues for creative, faithful and prophetic application; - Mariological: develops what the figure of Mary says about the identity and mission of women in the Church, presents the status questionis, some critical points and ways forward. Class schedule: - 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CEST (Central European Summer Time)/Rome - 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time)/New York City Total: 36 hours of frontal lectures and 15 hours of group workshops or round tables. Educational Credits: 4 ECTS. To receive course credit, the student must submit a written paper.
