The dynamics of spiritual discernment together with spiritual direction constitute the necessary means to lead the Christian vocation towards its fullness. The wisdom of the Church through Tradition, the Magisterium and the experience of holiness of many of her sons and daughters has always highlighted its fundamental character. If spiritual discernment is placed within the perspective of grasping the object of God’s will, the “what” God asks; spiritual direction, on the other hand, develops the “how” to understand it, in order to realize it in the concrete situations of time and history. The Spirit of the Lord accompanies and illuminates these paths, leading the person to his fulfillment and, ultimately, to his holiness.
