FILP 1A12

PHILOSOPHICAL LATIN I (PHILOSOPHY IN ITS SOURCES)

Filosofia

Academic Year 2023-2024

Duration

II semestre

Class beginning dates

12/02/2024

Introduction

The course shares the learning targets established by the Decree on the Reform of Ecclesiastical Studies of Philosophy (28/01/2011) by the Congregation for Catholic Education: “so as to be able to understand the philosophical works (especially of Christian authors) written in that language” (art. 60, b), and adjust to the expectations defined by the Qualifications Framework in the European Higher Education Area (EQF or “Dublin descriptors”). The students will be invited to attend the course most suited to their needs, based on the result of a test. The basic level aims to introduce morphology and syntax of Latin, to achieve the established goal by the end of the two semesters available. The first semester introduces the rudiments of the language, starting out with what the students already know, albeit on a subconscious level, for example, through prayers such as the Ave Maria and Pater Noster. Through studying these familiar texts the students will discover and learn the functions and dynamics of the language.
