FILP 1A21

PHILOSOPHICAL LATIN II (BASIC LEVEL)

Filosofia

Academic Year 2023-2024

Duration

I semestre

Class beginning dates

04/10/2023

Introduction

The course shares the learning targets established by the Decree on the Reform of Ecclesiastical Studies of Philosophy (28/01/2011) by the Congregation for Catholic Education: “so as to be able to understand the philosophical works (especially of Christian authors) written in that language” (art. 60, b), and adjust to expectations defined by the Qualifications Framework in the European Higher Education Area (EQF or “Dublin descriptors”). The basic level aims to introduce the morphology and syntax of Latin, to reach the established goal at the end of the two semesters available. In the second semester, certain elements tackled in the first will be revised and further discussed, to reinforce the notions acquired, through activities aimed at making the student aware of the effective use of the language by Christian writers. While aware of the existence of other approaches and methods for developing some skills, we take the objective established by the Decree as our goal, and so will be concentrating on the receptive skills of comprehension and analysis of written texts and the course will be held in the Italian language.
