Descrizione

There is today a wide consensus that human development is a legitimate goal to which all men, peoples and societies vigorously have to get committed. However, though a common craving of all contemporary societies, development remains a very complex and ambiguous notion, admitting of several connotations, nuances and meanings. Against this backdrop, this work considers it expedient to shed light on the ingredients of true development. Making recourse to two contemporary, lucid, robust and fertile minds, Amartya Sen and Benedict XVI, it seeks to see what light they can offer for arriving at the true meaning of development. Engaging them in a critical dialogue, it attempts offering, through a cross-fertilization and fermentation of their seminal ideas, a more refined understanding of development and the practice of development for the meaningful and beneficial evolution of the society.
